Avon AV46 Azaro Sport Touring Rear Tire - 140/80ZR-17/-- Review
I put this tire on a 1985 Honda VF1100S V65 Sabre. As far as I know this is the only radial rear tire that will fit a VF1100S. The original size is 130/90-17, but this will fit in the swing arm and it is only 1/2 an inch smaller in diameter, so the gearing is virtually the same. Avon also makes a front tire that will fit the V65. Their Storm 2 Ultra is available in a size that will fit the front wheel. I mounted it in conjunction with this tire.
The grip is fantastic. Granted, this is a sport touring tire, so its not super high performance. But, I was used to bias-ply tires before this, so it feels like quite the upgrade. The tread is very deep, so I expect it to last for quite a while. I will update this review when the tread runs out.
UPDATE:
I got 5,000 miles out of this tire. I ride a lot in the city and suburbs, so I do lots of accelerating, the hardest work you can make a rear tire do. I'm also not a conservative rider, if there aren't any cars in front of me, I'm gonna get to cruising speed very quickly. My bike also puts out 110hp and weighs 550lb. Overall, given my riding style, I think this tire wears well. If you ride normally, you could probably get another 1,000 miles out of it. Maybe even more on a lighter bike.
The grip is awesome. Even on my old 1985 1/4 ton bike this tire didn't let go at full lean. My peg was scraping and this tire didn't let go.
