Hellwig 7640 Front Sway Bar Review

I put this on my 2000 Excursion 4x4. I recently purchased and installed the rear kit, as these early trucks did not come with a rear bar at all. After installing the rear, the front still seemed a bit loose, so I opted to install the front bar as well. This bar is an improvement over the stock bar. The original is already pretty large, so there isn't much room to move up in size. The Hellwig is slightly larger in diameter and does seem to add some torsional stiffness which is much needed in these trucks (especially when lifted). I would say the rear kit (#7643) is an absolute must have item. The front bar (#7640) is a nice addition, but I would probably call it optional. If it's in the budget, go for it. Install was quick and easy as it is simply a matter of unbolting the old and replacing with the new. It's only a total of 6 bolts, so it's a very straightforward install. Hellwig's instructions are terrible, but thankfully they're basically unnecessary in this case.

I bought this for my wife's Honda CRV after the in-dash CD changer failed (as they all do, in my experience). She is very happy with it, especially its control of her iPod which is tucked away out of sight. I prefer Blaupunkt's approach where one uses the familiar iPod touch screen to control that unit, but this one is nice. It will also accept satellite radio and bluetooth add-ons.
