Product Description
Deluxe platform hitch rack is fast to install, load and remove with minimal bike lifting. Fits 2 bikesSportRack EZ Hitch Platform 2 Bike Rack Review
First, a bit of serious warning. The receiver bar is wider/thicker than 1 1/4 in! It does NOT fit into a U-Haul-mounted tow hitch. Apparently, whoever designed the rack forgot about paint thickness. It does fit fine after the paint is removed; this takes quite a bit of sanding. So, if you do not like getting your hands dirty - look elsewhere. The hook locks are next to useless. Not because they do not work. They do. But anyone can undo the wheel straps and pull the bike out from below, without moving the hooks. By the way, it also means that the straps are necessary to keep a bike on the rack. For longer trips you may want some backup - for example bungee cords.
Now, the good stuff!
It works. It comfortably fits a medium-size bike and a largish one. I have seen some reviews that claim that large bikes do not fit well on this rack. Those must have been very large bikes, indeed!
It is relatively easy to put together (except the sanding part, of course). Twenty minutes and you are done. Some of the preinstalled screws/nuts require tightening to eliminate rattling. Not a big deal.
Due to its construction, the rack can be smaller than the bikes it carries. It may well be the narrowest of all platform-type racks. That's good if you plan to use it with a small car. It also folds nicely when not in use.
The receiver bar is rather long. This is great of your hitch is hidden far in front of your rear bumper. In my case (Honda Civic with a U-Haul hitch), the rack would stick far, far our behind the car. I shortened the bar by a couple of inches to fix this. Again, I had to get my hands dirty.
I paid $184 for the rack. At this price I consider it a decent deal, but would not pay much more for it.
