I did a ton of research on the xr discussion threads pertaining to aftermarket tanks for the 650ls.

This was my reason for going with this one:

There are 4 or 5 options which I think is a lot. One of the bigger tanks (not clarke) comes with petcocks and uses 2. I thought "wow, that would be easier than tipping the bike over to get fuel on the other side of the tunnel." In the end, if you are riding a 650l you must be pretty manly and the fact is that tipping the bike over is really easy. Modding the single petcock for this tank that the review is for to get fuel from both sides of the tank is just not necessary.

The main issues for the other options are this: more costly, more difficulty of installation (this is arguable of course), and the big killer for me was that people are complaining about loss of range-of-motion in your bars or clamp or whatever. This was a no-no for me...

This 4.7 clarke tank looks great. The picture on Amazon does it no justice (yeah yeah, I know its just a gas tank). It was a snap to install. It is made well, plastic tanks are tough. Stock filled to the brim will yield 2.2-2.5 or something US gallons. I filled my new 4.7 with 3.5 gallons on first fill up 5 days ago, normally I would have to fill it after 2 more trips to work. It will be MUCH longer than that!!!!

One guy on a thread mentioned to put a pint of gas or whatever in the new tank, swish it around and dump it to get plastic remnants out. Believe this...
