Sure, I should be using Brass chain, I get that. The price on this is great, and the Zinc plate will outlast my life time and the life time of my children, someone else can worry about it after that. The key for this sash chain is that it is thin. I have tried a number of sizes, and this has gone through every pulley system without binding, or requiring the need to router out the window sash to create a bigger channel.

Bottom line: You want to fix your wonderful old wooden windows. You want a chain instead of a rope that will break. You aren't fixing them for the King of Estonia, they just have to work right for the next 40-50 years or so and it's some one else's problem. This is a good choice on the chain. It is rated to more than hold for residential applications, it will last 50 some years, it is thin, saving a ton of work to make the window open all the way. And you can afford it. I am somewhere around half way through the spool, and I think we have done 34 windows of various sizes.
