Heidenaus are probably the best I've found that let you do both without losing out on a smooth ride on pavement. Continentals get a bit choppy and wear out much faster. I took a pair of Heidenaus from Colombia to Brazil and with 10K miles in them, they looked like they could keep going all the way on the return trip. Really impressed with longevity, durability, and grip on the dirt. Highly recommend them.
