Air Suspension Compressor Review

Vehicle: 2001 Chevy Venture; 143,000 miles; owned for over eight years

First of all we were very wary of trying to replace the compressor on our 2001 Chevy venture ourselves. After reading a bit and inspecting the van for connections and mounting information we determined to do this ourselves. We then checked Chevy for parts availability/price we decided that this job/repair might be a little too pricy as the compressor from Chevrolet would've been over $600.00. I resorted, hopeful, to Amazon.

Amazon had this compressor at a very low price of $161 from a seller/manufacturer, Arnott industries. I called the company, Arnott Industries using their supplied phone number, 1-800-251-8993. Without any product review I was a bit hesitant. The knowledgeable gentleman that I talked to reassured me that the part I was inquiring about was indeed a direct fit and they have had many satisfied customers. After assuring me that if I ordered the part and then decided for any reason I didn't want to go through with the repair that the company would oblige me with a return RMA and a prompt refund. No one likes a run-a-round.

We received the compressor within a few days and the replacement took about and hour and a half. It was a breeze with the documents/illustrations/instructions that Arnott provided in the box with the part. The compressor wiring was of different colors than the General Motors wiring but was all addressed clearly in the included instructions. At the same time we replaced the rear air shocks with the Monroe air shocks (model: MA824) we also purchased from here on Amazon. I also tore-down, cleaned, and reassembled the GM air dryer that attaches to the compressor. After the install I was amazed. Our van now "pumps up" to the correct position. I keyed the ignition to ACC and ran the new compressor for the first time. It ran until the rear of the van was at the desired height (controlled by a switch located between the center of axle and the vehicle's chassis). I then stepped onto the rear bumper with my 200lb. body, waited a few seconds, and the compressor again turned on and brought the rear of the van up to the desired elevation. I then stepped off the bumper and in a few seconds heard a "hiss" of the air coming out of the leveling system once again bring the rear of the vehicle to the desired height.

The only thing I would mention is that the old bolts that fasten the compressor to the bracket that then attaches to the vehicle were so rusted and rotted out that even with many pennies-worth of PB Blaster they were useless and couldn't be unscrewed. The soft-metaled hex heads would just strip out. New ones were not supplied with the compressor. I made a trip to a local hardware store. After not finding self-tapper screws that would work I decided to buy some new stainless steel bolts, fender washers, and lock nuts. I drilled out the old ones that were rust-welded into the bracket. The sizes I used were (3ea.) #10-24 1-1/2" long bolts, (6ea.) #10 fender washers, and (3ea.) #10 lock nuts, all stainless steel. I had the cut one bolt down a bit in length as it was contacting the air-dryer.

Hopes this review helps. I wished one would've been here for me to read prior to purchasing this product.

THANKS ARNOTT! Our van no longer sags in the rear end. What a bargain and simple replacement!
